Creating In Times Like These:
For the Beauty of the Earth—Living Within
Wildflowers on the side of a road; the crescent moon; a single Autumn leaf. How do we engage more fully in the beauty of the natural world that is all around us? Beauty that delights and makes us come alive; beauty that creates wonder and a deep sense of belonging? In this retreat we will learn together about the relationship of beauty to spirituality and wellness, and how beauty calls us to care for the earth.
We will use simple activities including guided visualization, journaling, haiku, a directed nature walk and selection of photos and objects of nature that speak to us. There will also be time alone and with the group to explore these possibilities. Each participant will receive a journal and the book, Clear Water by the retreat leader as gifts for further exploration. Jeannie Martin will lead.
Jeannie Martin, MSW, MTS, E.D., United Methodist Deaconess, has taught haiku in prison, senior centers, nursing homes and community programs as a way to encourage a sense of reverence for all. She has published several books of haiku, which she considers to be “an avenue to seeing and experiencing God’s creation with heightened awareness and meaning.”
9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, June 17.
